In-Home Therapy FAQs

We want you to have all the information you need to make you comfortable with in-home therapy. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions.

INSURANCE

We accept most major insurances, although coverage will depend on individual plans. We make sure to contact you or your family before starting services to inform you of any co-pays or co-insurance that may be due. This way, you can make the decision as to whether or not move forward before we begin therapy.

No. Once we receive the initial information from you, we verify the insurance, and contact you or your family with information on any financial responsibility for the services. We contact your doctor to request the prescription for therapy, and our team reaches out to you or your family to schedule the initial evaluation at home. It’s as easy as that! We do all the heavy lifting.

IN-HOME PHYSICAL THERAPY

Most certainly! Home-based physical therapy has several advantages, including convenience and the comfort of being in your own home. In fact, seeing you in your own environment allows the therapist to better tailor your therapy, helping you learn ways to navigate more comfortably and safely around the place where you spend the most time.

In-home physical therapy is a practical option for people who have undergone surgery, individuals with chronic conditions, and those who may find it challenging to visit a physical therapy clinic regularly due to mobility or transportation constraints.

It allows the therapist to cater more to you. Getting to know your home environment is getting to know you better. The therapist will assess your home for safety and customize a therapy plan specific to you. Safety and mobility are our top priorities. You will have the same therapist every time. We find that our patients build a relationship and bond of trust with their therapist that enhances their therapy. Our scheduling is flexible. We work to schedule your appointments at a time convenient for you, your family and the therapist.

Typically, you will have therapy two to three times per week. As you improve, we may move to two times or one time per week. Even with fewer sessions, the skills of the therapist are still needed to support you and help you continue making progress toward your goal. Our scheduling is flexible. We can schedule your appointments at a time convenient for you.

The need for therapy is addressed by functionality, rather than diagnosis. If your physical condition is limiting your ability to function safely, then you could be a candidate for in-home physical therapy. We always strive to help our patients restore safety, mobility and independence. Some of the most common medical conditions, which may require physical therapy, are pain, limited mobility, deconditioning, arthritis, neurological disorders, fractures, and surgery.

The sooner the better! The sooner you begin therapy the sooner you’ll be able to get back to doing the daily activities you love.

IN-HOME OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

It helps you maintain the art of daily living — how to function safely at home and how to take care of yourself. Getting to know your home environment is getting to know you better and helps us customize a plan to improve your ability to accomplish daily activities of living, such as reaching, grasping, cooking, bathing, and dressing.

One of the most important and satisfying benefits is restoring independence and the ability to take care of yourself. We will teach you new skills to help you adapt to living safely at home.

Our scheduling is flexible. We work to schedule your appointments at a time convenient for you, your family and the therapist.

If you’re finding that the way you do things is changing…if it’s becoming more difficult to handle the activities of daily living because of things like general weakness or frequent falls, we recommend seeing your doctor. You may be a candidate for therapy.

You can expect an evaluation by our therapist to assess your strength, balance, range of motion, and coordination — your ability to take care of every aspect of your life. Then, we’ll create a therapy plan just for you, which will help you restore and improve your ability to handle the activities of daily living. The therapist will teach you new ways to adapt to doing what you may need, including activities such as bathing, dressing, getting your clothes from the closet, making coffee, opening a container, and holding a cup.

IN-HOME SPEECH THERAPY

Yes! No matter your condition, we can bring therapy to you in the comfort of your own home.

Typically, you will have therapy two to three times per week. As you improve, we may move to two times or one time per week. Even with fewer sessions, the skills of the therapist are still needed to support you and help you continue making progress.

Our scheduling is flexible. We work to schedule your appointments at a time convenient for you, your family and the therapist.

The need for speech therapy can vary widely from person to person, and it’s important to remember that speech therapy is not just for children. It can benefit people of all ages, including adults. Our therapists specialize in diagnosing, treating and improving speech and language disorders in older adults.

Speech therapy for adults can address a wide range of communication challenges and disorders such as swallowing, muscle weakness, stuttering, cognition, confusion, memory, and difficulty articulating words. If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these communication difficulties that impact daily life, it would be a good idea to consult with your doctor. You may benefit from speech therapy.

As with any of our in-home therapies, our friendly therapists are dedicated to bringing professional and caring therapy to you in the comfort of your own home. Our top priority is always to restore and improve your communication abilities so that you can live a safe, independent and happy life.

Speech therapy can last as long as you need the support and skills of a therapist to help you improve and reach your goals.

IN-HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENT

It is a comprehensive review and analysis of an individual’s living environment, both inside and outside, to identify potential safety hazards and make recommendations to prevent accidents and injuries.

The primary goal of a home safety assessment is to create a safer and more accessible living environment, improving the individual’s quality of life and reducing the risk of accidents or falls. Our therapists are trained to assess the home environment and make recommendations on basic changes that can be made to keep your home as safe as possible. These can include simple solutions such as increasing lighting, adjusting furniture placement, or strategically installing grab bars in the best areas to reduce fall risk.

That ultimately would be up to you and your family to determine. The Bridgeway in-home therapists are here to assess your home environment and offer suggestions on basic changes that can be made to keep you as safe as possible in your home.

It’s not a question of “passing an inspection”. Our top priority is to help you be safe and be well in your own home. Our safety assessment goes hand in hand with your therapy sessions to make sure that you are getting the best results possible and have the ability to live safely and independently in your home.
